Everything You Need To Know About PRP (aka ‘The Vampire Facial’)

The phrase ‘Vampire Facial’ may sound a little ominous, and is often accompanied by a graphic image of a red-faced celebrity, but we can assure you that this treatment is not nearly as scary as it sounds!

In fact, it’s super popular with our clients who prefer a more gentle and natural approach to their skin treatments.

‘The Vampire Facial’ is the name often given to Platelet-Rich Plasma injections (or PRP), a skin rejuvenating treatment that allows us to harness your body's natural power to regenerate itself.

Combining microneedling and PRP injections, we are able to revitalise the skin and improve overall skin texture, and treat issues like:

- Dull and dry skin
- Wrinkles and dark circles
- Hair thinning
- Skin laxity and pigmentation
- Scars and large pores

We use no synthetic ingredients in this treatment - just your body's very own healing plasma!

We love this powerful treatment here at Blanc, which is why we wanted to put your mind at ease and answer your most popular questions!

Take a look.

WHAT EXACTLY IS PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. This is a concentration of one type of cell called platelets, which are crucial for clotting and contain growth factors that stimulate tissue regeneration.

By injecting PRP into the skin and using it in conjunction with microneedling, we can accelerate the process of skin healing and collagen production.

HOW DOES PRP BENEFIT SKIN?

Platelet-Rich Plasma essentially supercharges the skins natural renewal process, and stimulates collagen and elastin to rejuvenate the skin and reduce signs of ageing. It can help to reduce lines, wrinkles and volume loss, improve skin tone and texture, tighten the skin and give you a healthy, glowing appearance.

It also works wonders on dark circles and the crepey under-eye area.

WHAT DOES A PRP TREATMENT INVOLVE?

A PRP treatment involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patients arm and placing it into a centrifuge which will spin the blood and allow us to extract the healing platelet-rich plasma. From here, PRP can be injected into areas of the face that we’d like to rejuvenate, such as the eye area or around the mouth.

We will also use the dermapen to deliver the PRP to all areas of the face, meaning you'll get a session of skin needling with your treatment too!

DOES PRP HURT?

Mild discomfort or stinging sensation can be expected with PRP injections and skin needling, however, we can apply a topical numbing cream beforehand.

HOW LONG DOES PRP TAKE?

Depending on the areas treated, the procedure can take 30-60 minutes.

HOW MANY PRP TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

We recommend booking in for 3 treatments, 1 month apart.

From here, 1 maintenance session per year is ideal.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR PRP AND HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY SKIN DURING THIS TIME?

You can expect some redness and puffiness for 24-48 hours post treatment. If the PRP has been injected, you may have some minor bruising at the injection site.

For the 24 hours after your treatment, avoid makeup, excessive exercise, sweating and heat, and use gentle products with no actives for 48 hours.

Some supplements and medications may increase bruising or swelling, so be sure to let your nurse know what you’re taking.

HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS FROM PRP?

You will notice an immediate glow after your treatment, and continue to see improvements over the next 3 months as new collagen develops.

IS PRP SAFE?

This treatment is very safe, as we are using platelet-rich plasma from your own body. As a results, there is very little risk of having an adverse reaction. As with all treatments, please let us know if you have a pre-existing issue or medical condition.

CAN ANYONE BOOK IN FOR PRP?

This treatment is suitable for almost everyone!

It's not suitable during pregnancy, or those who have active acne (although it can be an effective treatment for acne scarring). We can, however, do this treatment while breastfeeding.

HOW MUCH DOES PRP COST?

Eyes $799 (single) $2,100 (course of 3)
Full Face $899 (single) $2,400 (course of 3)
Face, neck and décolletage $1,200 (single) $3,300 (course of 3)
