We recently had Tessa Gallagher from The Urban List in the clinic to test out our EMSCULPT machine! Find out what she had to say.
I don’t mean to brag or anything but I did 80,000 ab crunches last week.
Even better, I was lying down the whole time not doing a thing. Intrigued? It’s called EMSCULPT.
A non-invasive body contouring method that promises to burn fat and build muscle, it’s the hottest treatment in town and I can tell you now, it’s good. Really good. Having recently had a baby, let’s just say I have plenty of room for abdominal improvement and I was a perfect candidate for this treatment. Also, I will take any opportunity to make my way to the heavenly Blanc in Cottesloe.
So, What Is EMSCULPT?
Using high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy, EMSCULPT constricts muscles and targets fat loss by signalling fat cells in the area to break down their contents and release them as free fatty acids. What that means for those of us who aren’t scientists is that this technology is able to activate the muscle in a way that you can’t when you do a crunch. In fact, during a single treatment, targeted muscles contract up to 20,000 times, or about the same number of contractions you’d achieve doing 12,000 sit-ups. The good news is you will see results immediately but the best results will come from a combination of the treatments, a regular exercise regime and a healthy diet. Each treatment is 30 minutes and all four treatments need to be completed within two weeks.
How Does EMSCULPT Work?
The first five minutes of session one was definitely a mental game for me—the feeling was so bizarre that I couldn’t stop laughing. The only way I can think to describe it is childbirth contractions without the actual pain or a super intense crunch that someone else does for you. After a few minutes of contractions, the machine will switch over to a tapping motion to help break up the lactic acid that’s being released by your muscles which ensures you won’t feel any soreness after the treatment. Although definitely a little sweaty afterwards, I didn’t feel any side effects. By the second session, I was used to the contractions and by session four, I practically snoozed through the whole thing.
The Verdict
Prior to starting these treatments, I would have rolled my eyes at anyone telling me I could get the definition and fat-burning effect of 20,000 crunches while lying down for 30 minutes but here’s the thing: it works. EMSCULPT obviously isn’t a miracle cure or a magic, silver bullet that will replace a healthy diet and good exercise routine but it has definitely made a difference to the tone and tightness of my tummy and I’m also finding that I’m better able to work through and hold the core exercises during my Pilates classes.
