With Father’s Day quickly approaching, we felt it was a great time to shine a light on our most popular treatments for male clients.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that there are some important differences between men and women when it comes to skin, and therefore require a slightly different approach.
OILINESS
Men tend to be more prone to oiliness due to a higher presence of testosterone, making them more prone to congestion, acne, large pores and other blemishes. By age 50, however, it’s common for these oil secretions to slow down.
SKIN THICKNESS AND AGEING
Men tend to have thicker skin than women (around 20% thicker, in fact), making it less fragile and generally more resilient to the effects of UV damage. It also contains more collagen (lucky!) which declines at a consistent rate, lending them a firmer, plumper appearance overall. Women, on the other hand, often experience a quick drop in collagen after menopause.
SENSITISATION
While men have a lot of natural advantages when it comes to skin, many external factors can contribute to a decline in a decline in skin health. Habitual shaving can damage the skin barrier, and a tendency to forgo regular skincare routines and SPF can leave men more prone to environmental damage and skin cancer.
